Default Coolant level gone up

Hi all,I got a quick message on the dash about coolant,it was that quick I only managed to see something to do with coolant.Anyway I checked it and it is almost full to the brim yet last week it was half way. 2011 S60 t3 1.6.Any help will be appreciated.

First job is to check the coolant level on a stone cold engine. It must not be above max or below minimum.

"To the brim" sounds excessive but it is normal for coolant to rise above the Max line hence the term expansion tank. If it rises too high though, there may be a flow restriction, airlock in the system or loss of pressure from the expansion tank cap for example.

Even cheap diagnostics will give you live data to view the coolant temperature behaviour so you can see if the thermostat is opening as it should.

Issues to do with coolant in these engines is potentially a bad sign. It’s the Ford unit prone to problems, I have the T4 version which has so far been trouble free at 63000 miles. Keep a very close eye on it over the next few days

Well I checked the fluid this morning and it is 10mm above the MAX line.I think I will take some out and then top it up and make sure it is at the correct strength.Then see if it does it again.
