How best to stop D5 Crank Pulley Turning
Hi, just a quick one.
Yesterday I changed the Cambelt and tensioner on my 2007 XC90 D5 and will hopefully be fitting the Auxiliary belt kit later today as well as a new Alternator pulley. The last D5 Cambelt that I did a couple of years ago, I left the pulley on but this time seeing as the Cambelt kit came with a new crank nut and 4 Crank I removed the Pulley. ( Easy ) I have fitted the new kit and refitted the Crank Pulley and torqued the centre nut up to 300 nm using a Volvo Holding tool. I have fitted the 4 new bolts and here is the query. On trying to torque these nuts up I am unable to prevent the Crank Pulley from revolving when I exert pressure on each bolt. How have you managed to jam or lock/prevent the pulley from turning sufficiently in order to tighten these 4 bolts without causing any damage. Obviously the Volvo locking tool is of no use to me on this final stage. Thanks Darryl.

Morning Darryl, how about a large screwdriver in the teeth of the ring gear,if you have access? and an assistant. Good luck with the new "Baby".
best regards,Keith.

Counterhold the main nut. The torque of the four pulley bolts won't affect it.

Thanks, I've already just done that. They are only torqued to 35nm + a further 50% so no chance against the 300nm nut.
