Default 2.0D engine oil grade / high mileage

Afternoon chaps,

The usual Googling has been done and as usual, a myriad of different opinions out there so hopefully this will provide more definitive answers!

Have a 2007 V50 2.0D which is seemingly an E4 D4204T according to people more knowledgeable than me... and according to Comma, that means it should be running 5W/30 synthetic.

However, said car has now done 196k (just run in blah blah blah...) and having just bought it (yup, at that mileage...) this will be its first oil change in my tenure and I'm sat thinking that perhaps 5W/30 is a bit thin for a clattery old oil burner of this mileage?

There seems to be hints towards using 10W/40 synthetic instead as it's a bit thicker and thus, perhaps better suited to high milers but as is always the case, the web is full of contradictions so I'm suitably confused now.

Thanks

Stick with the 5w30. Volvo actually recommend 0w30. This engine Is prone to turbo issues on Peugeot’s and fords because of wrong oil and poor servicing. Don’t use 10w40 that’s not a good idea.
