Hi
whatever you buy you will end up with visitng dealership as any new key must be programmed in. Blank keys sold on ebay are just to transfer the internals if your is broken etc. On our cars, unfortunately, the only way to get second key is to get it from dealership and fork out between 250 and 300eur all in.

Im in the same boat so already did my research... :/

As LoB said. Also because there are ebay sellers who don't care, they just take your money.

Same here when I bought mine it only had one key, I had to order a new
key and have it coded via the main dealer, Alas not cheap.

I know it's expensive but I don't think it's altogether a bad thing that new keys/remotes are dealer only. It's got to be better than BMW, Mercedes and many others where anyone with a laptop and software from the internet can program a new key and use it to steal your car?

If all you want is a spare key to open the door via the lock and start the car (no remote locking) in an emergency then you can clone an existing key for a few £s.

Well the thing is you CANT (on our Volvos, unless you are talking general?). You cant clone/duplicate/replicate your current key to make new one working. Its not only the remote locking that dealers are programming in, its the "pairing key to your car" process including ability to start it up etc. I would actually love to be able to do a cheap clone of key, like I used to do on my old cars where any good locksmith just copy the RFID chip info and cut the blade and you are done for few quid, even without remote locking possibilities.
Our cars are not like that :/
