Smile Won't rev above 2500/3000rpm. AA fault checked.

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and hoping for a little advice if possible on my 2005 (54 plate) V50 2.0 D SE.

No issues and running fine last night when coming home. Went to go out in it this morning and as I pulled out onto the main road from home, realised no power at all and wouldn't rev about 2500rpm.

AA have come out to look and the scan flagged the follow errors:
  • System : Engine control - 52U / Diesel CR/EDC SID 8032683 - Exhaust gas recirculation cooling bypass valve.
  • Error Message : Signal too high.0047 - Boost pressure solenoid valve. Error Message : Signal too low.
  • 0113 - Air- mass sensor. Error Message : Signal too high.
  • 0101 - Air- mass sensor. Error Message : Signal faulty.
  • 0238 - Boost pressure sensor. Error Message : Signal too high.
  • 0098 - Charge-air temperature sensor. Error Message : Signal too high

The AA chap fitted an EGR blanking plate thinking it would be this, but didn't seem to help after road testing.

He thought it could potentially (as that didn't work) be turbo related...but wasn't entirely sure.

The garage I use is near my work in Bury St Edmunds and I live the other side of Ely (35 miles away) so not really drive-able over to them (safely).

Any help would me much appreciated!

Hi
Worth checking a vacuum pipe hasn't come off. Can stop the turbo working.
I had one come off after an oil filter change. There are 2 down by the oil filter tucked under the block, mirror on a stick would help. Just follow all the lines and check all are connected securely. And follow around rest of engine as well to check

Quick and cheap check as a start.

This has happened to me twice on a 2.0D and both times a failed DPF sensor had forced the engine into limp mode. If this is the case with yours the sensor will have to be replaced.

If you have not changed the fuel filter for a while, it is worth changing,
I had a similar problem and a new filter cured it .

Sounds like it's going into limp mode, one of the more common causes is the turbo over boosting which is usually as a result of some problem with the vacuum system.

- Do you get a message on the dashboard?

- Suggest re-start car and try driving with very light throttle, accelerate gradually, can you get it to go over 2,500 rpm ? If so this would suggest boost issue.

I would agree, probably not wise to drive it on main roads.

get some sensor cleaner and give your MAF sensor a quick clean to see if that makes the problem better.

my 2.5 did this felt like a misfiring petrol engine..was fine at low revs wouldn't go over 3000rpm just misfired . Changed fuel filter even though it was only 2-3 months old.. was fine after... put it down to a bad filter or a bad fuel fill... try the easy simple fix first... no fault code though..

Check the wiring to the MAP sensor on the top of the inlet manifold. 3 wire plug and the wiring breaks at the terminal. I repaired one about a year ago and had to replace the plug this year, had all the fault codes (and more) you are showing.

My fix was to snip a plug off a 307 with as much wire as I could get and extended the wiring to the plug by about 4 inches.
