Recommendations for restorers
Hi
I just wondered if anyone could recommend a restorer to me for the restoration of my Amazon. It needs a full restoration to the car including all bodywork and putting the mechanics back together. I have the funds to do the car and therefore, just trying to find someone reliable and trustworthy. Many thanks Mark |

Try having a chat with 123GT AMAZON on here, Robert is his real name and he is very into old Volvos. He is also a nice bloke to deal with. We sold our old Amazon estate to him and he transformed it. Based in Suffolk.

I need a clear action plan in place when I do work now so for both sides it’s clear what will be done and the time frame to be expected we all need to work to . as I have had cars in my workshop and muggins here has had to cover the storage space with my landlord for months on end so there can be times I have to sit on my hands thinking This is costing me that space - times like that I rather have my own cars parked in them spaces . I mean I’m good at what I do if I can be allowed to push forward nicely moving the Restorations along at a nice productive pace . So now it’s simple no action plan then the car has to go I like to help ...you all know me I will always help if I can but it’s my lively hood so have to look at it from a bussiness point of view to balance the books 📚 . Kind regards Robert.W

Any other recommendations for a body shop/mechanic would be appreciated. There is still quite a bit to do on both body and mechanics. I do know a very good garage but they are currently working on another car for me and are booked up. Thanks

Nigel might be able to do the mechanics and bodywork but not the paint. |

Markymar93 from my own frustrating experience I can only advise you find a restorer that has several good testimonials, and if possible check previous work quality and the restorers premises, which may be a reflection of the quality of work to be expected.
Make sure you agree a fix schedule of work and costs to ensure the job does not run massively over both time and budget. keep a firm eye on time frames, ensure you get this in writing. Also be aware that upfront funds may not be to your best advantage. I would also encourage you to contract the works out to different companies let the mechanics stick to the spanners but make sure you employ specialists for custom work, bodywork and upholstery. Before you accept return of the car make sure you are not paying for unfinished work. Hope this helps. Last edited by wantavolvo; Mar 21st, 2018 at 18:31. |
