Default Cruise speed

2004 Volvo XC 70 D5 awd

I know depends how the car is and other many factors.
But what is the optimal motorway cruise speed for this car? 60? 70?

Many Thanks

Cruise on a motorway! They usually move too slowly to activate cruise round here!

But economy wise, they recon around 60mph is optimal, but you'll then be stuck with the trucks at 53-56mph.

About 63 on cruise for best mpg, not slow enough for wagons to be on your bumper and usually you don’t overtake anyone so can relax a bit more. However the car doesn’t suit it I think, 75-80 suits the car lovely and seems to be at the point you can blip the overtaking pedal and it’s effortless, however slightly worse mpg and other drivers who can’t maintain speeds making you knock cruise off.

To be honest I've not noticed a great deal of difference between 70 and 90 between Leeds and Glasgow.
It tends to hover around 40, sometimes 38, sometimes 42 but it doesn't seem to be speed affected as much as I'd have expected.
It seems to be more to do with how often you have to slow down and speed back up. Empty motorway overnight and I get 42 @ 90, busy during the day, 38 @ 70.
If you can be bothered to sit with the trucks you might see 48....

Bearing in mind yours is the 163 engine which is known to be more fuel efficient than the 185 in mine you should be seeing at least what I get but probably 5mpg better

60+ mpg is possible with the Euro 3 D5 if sitting around 60mph with cruise control on, though it depends on many factors such as tyres, fuel quality and vehicle weight.
