Default Grom Audio unit (plays MP3s through any head unit)

£70 ono (delivered)

I bought a Grom unit last year from http://www.carputer-shop.co.uk/ for playing MP3s in the car. It's been brilliant, but I've just found out that v2 also plays FLAC.

If you don't know what FLAC is, or don't care about it, then read on....

I'm tempted to upgrade, as I am bothered about FLAC, but no point doing that unless I can recoup some of the cost of mine...

Obviously it's in perfect condition as it's been stuck behind the dashboard since I fitted it. It'll come with a brand new & unused fitting kit for your head unit (whatever it is), as I'll get one with the new Grom, and obviously I've already got one fitted so no point redoing it.

Best to send me a PM or an email if you're interested as I might not see your reply, the notifications on here are unreliable

email is tom at my user name on here dot com

I'm also putting a listing up on eBay at the same price "or best offer"

Yes it does have USB input. I bought a handful of USB sticks from Amazon and have about 100 hours of music on hand!

The difference between v1 and v2 is apparently the internal circuitry, I guess they've upgraded the microprocessor so it's capable of playing higher bit rate files? There was a 320kbps limit on MP3 bit rates.

You can buy a cable so that your iPhone or Android phone will control the player via USB and play tracks from the phone music player via 3.5mm jack... but it only charges at 500mA so it's no good if you also use phone as a satnav as it'll drain the phone battery.

There's also a Bluetooth adapter for it that lets you control the unit but that's really expensive...

There's two ways.

1 buy the Bluetooth adapter at about 40 quid and it links in perfectly and cuts music during calls. I think this is bad value as the Parrot units are cheaper overall.

2 buy the 3.5mm jack adapter for about 15 quid and ONLY use your phone SD card for music. This is the best idea if you have 3G and want to listen to internet radio via your phone.

I did neither, I spent 25 quid on a good visor mounted BT speakerphone. I just flick the HU off when I get a call

It's a great device but it's definitely expensive, not bargain basement but if you want seamless integration there's no other choice. And it does transfer to your next car so it's a long term investment. Just wish I'd waited until v2 got over here because I knew it was out in the US when I bought mine... It's only recently I've started using FLAC though
