Default XC90 USB MP3 locks up

Hi

I have a XC90 D5 Active delivered September 2009. The audio sounds great when working. Unfortunately there's an intermittent fault when playing MP3 files from the USB port in the glovebox. The player locks-up during a journey. The time until it locks seems to be random, anywhere between a minute and an hour. Also, the track that the player sticks on is random, one day it will play a track the whole way through, next it won't. Once locked it will not continue playing until the next journey - although I am able to switch to radio or CD. I've tried turning the player on / off. I've also tried several different memory sticks.

Has anyone else has this problem?

Thanks
Rob.

Have you tried another USB flash drive or a different brand (not a freebie) / smaller density? They're shipped with known flaws (bad sectors) and there is a table on them mapping the bad sectors. They even use internal error correction codes to correct errors increase the yield. They do get worse over time but something like a PC should update this table for you. A car MP3 system will not. I had all sorts of issues with a USB flash drive (OK on a PC!!!!) and it was this flash that was the culprit.

If you've tried a few, it does sound like your system - or a cable break...
