The plastic peice under the light just pulls off (straight back). Take a look at the other side.

Had some good luck in as much as the sat nav update disc that couldn’t be read inexplicably started to be readable, approximately five months after trying everything I could think of the first time. As a result I’ve been able to fully update the navigation to the latest maps. Hurrah!

Congrats on the new (human) addition.
Re. the map update - did you obtain the disks from the dealer?
How much were they if I may ask?

Thanks very much!

The map updates were from an eBay seller and cost around £13. You get two discs, both of which are needed for the update.

Which is about 10% of the dealer price

As with anything sold on eBay for 10% of new price, it won’t be original branded items. It will be a cheap copy.

Just an FYI for any readers out there..... know what you are buying before you buy it.... and thus accept the impact it has on the world economy.

Well put! In the spirit of supporting the economy, I’m spending the remaining 90ish% of what I would otherwise have spent on Volvo navigation discs on lunch in my local cafe, groceries thus supporting a whole supply chain, and a day out for my family at an adventure park. What a marvellous world we live in where such choice is available and open to all.

Actually I didn't wanted to get into the discussion about economy, as there are other sides to it as well. But how about over priced items? As you can see with medical products, monopolism is a b***h, and it is costing us a lot of money and even lives. Maybe regulation would be good here? If the price for this navigation software wouldn't be that outrages, a lot of people would buy it from Volvo/Navteq. Overpriced items are just as bad for the economy, as stolen goods.

But, what I really wanted to say: before you buy a copy from ebay, get it as (illegal) download for free. Doesn't change anything on your side. Here and there you are using an illegal copy of a software and you are responsible for that, no matter if you paid for it or not. So why pushing any "chinese" sellers in giving them money for an illegal item? If you are doing it wrong, than at least do it right within the wrong doing.

This is sensible food for thought.

I'm quite IT savvy and know the sorts of places where you might find such things for downloading, but I weighed up the pros of doing this (free) with the cons (would I find the right version, would I be able to burn the image properly, would I know the reason why it ultimately didn't work, etc) and decided for the relatively low cost of nav discs on eBay it wasn't worth the pain in the neck it can be trying to do myself.

Had I had easy access to lots of spare writable DVDs and a decent burner I may have made a different choice...

You should also bear in mind that he cost of the genuine disks also covers subscription to the Traffic Information service (the TI in RTI).
