Default auto gearbox clunk

As anybody had a clunking from their auto gearbox ?The reason I ask is,I have a problem on my S60 D5 (2006)auto.I do not get a clunk when I move from N to D or from N to R,but if I move from R through N to D it clonks and the same from D through N to R.It is quite a loud clunk (sometimes a double clunk) and it is worrying me.I have only had the car for 4 weeks and it is under a 3 month warrranty ,so if there is a problem I would like to get it sorted ASAP. Any suggestions or advice would be welcome.
Thanks .
Backaxle.

Hello, Your valve body is messed up. Exercise your rights NOW. You have a "double bump". There's no mistake about it. Rebuilds for our 5 speed AW transmissions are EXPENSIVE. Get into another car if need be. Kira

Thanks for the advice.I have not replied earlier because I have been away(towing a caravan with this car). This sounds really serious. What is a 'double bump'?The gearbox is a six speed geartronic, does this make a difference.
I bought the car on december 22nd from a large dealership. If things are as bad as you say how do I stand legally?

Are you absolutely sure it is the gearbox? Could it possibly be the driveshaft bolts ?
These can be replaced with XC90 driveshaft bolts, but do some research on this forum, it has been discussed at length.

if your car is under warranty,TAKE IT BACK! it sounds very epensive to me,if you have any problems get advice from an indy auto gearbox specialist, and then present the dealer with the facts. but first port of call is to have a chat to your dealer

The clunk ,or double clunk, seems to come from the front off side.I expect it could be driveshaft bolts or maybe a driveshaft spline. The noise has got louder since I have had the car (6 weeks)plus it has a loud growl when accelerating .It is under warranty,so it will be going back to the dealer tomorrow.I asked about the 'clunk'on this forum to get as much information as possible before taking it back.My experience with dealers has not been good in my lifetime,so I try to stay one step in front of the game. The information I have had from here has been a great help, thank you.

Hi,just to to update you nice people.I have been to the dealer this morning and their mechanic inspected the 'clunk'only to find that it is coming from the offside C/V joint.(thank god it is not the gearbox)!
They did want to charge me £350 for the CV plus vat plus labour and they would pay the first £100 under their warranty scheme. As I paid £6500 for this car and only had it for 6 weeks I hit the roof .Any way they relented and will stand the full cost and lent me a car.
Thanks for all the help and I hope this is the end of the matter.Maybe we can all learn from this.

Hi, latest is,I got the car back today with a new CV joint fitted to the offside, but unfortunately I still have the clunk when shifting from R to D and D to R. Now it sounds like it is coming from the nearside. Is it too big a coincidence for both CV joints to be worn?
I am starting to think that this clunk is more serious than CV joints and that what some people said on this forum is correct, that it is the gearbox.
Anyway, I am taking the car to a auto gearbox specialist tommorrow for examinination and then on to the dealer ,and maybe reject the car and ask for a refund.(I don't expect it to be good news though)
In the meantime has anybody got any advice?
Will update tommorrow
