yes pain the ass to get back,i used to wedge a block of wood behind the box against the suspension tower so it wont deflect then apply a small amount of lube to the lug both sides and offer up the lid and push without great force while varying the angle,it will slot home eventually without distortion.

Mike,

I filed the edges of the centre lug and where it locates on the air filter housing a bit at a time, until it fitted without needing excessive force or use of a screwdriver. It now fits perfectly without any distortion.
