I have a 56 plate d5 auto 185 it was doing 26.7 mpg around town and that was pretty consistent on most fill ups we had it serviced last Monday and they flushed the oil with forte oil flush and put forte fuel system cleaner and turbo cleaner through it just filled up and it's done 28.8 mpg and that's all around town and with the wife driving it and she drives it a lot harder than me so I'm pleased with that not sure if the additives worked or just having it serviced or maybe both but I am pleased with it I'm going away in it soon so will let you know how it does on a run fully loaded up

Could there be error codes on it causing poor economy

My most common drive is too and from work which is only 8 miles, 3 of which is a back road, but I should be getting better mpg than that surely?

What improvements can I expect to see remapping it? Is it beneficial to remove the dpf? Or egr valve?

cars The 163bhp 2003 d5 model, Thanks Dylan.
No DPF on the 2003 163bhp engine.

Takes about that 8 mile distance to warm up so you are mostly running cold.

I don't use mine for short journeys and I get 36 to 40 mpg depending how fast I travel.

Remapping would only make a minor difference if you can keep your foot off the throttle.

EGR could need a clean. That often helps.

2007 d5 185 (87k miles)

I get ( off the comp ) between 35 and 43mpg

Real life if i went down to fumes driving motorway sensibly will do 600 ish miles to a tank

Recently did salisbury uk to paderborn germany ( 520 miles) with a touch under 1/4 tank left thats cruise control at 81mph for about 300 miles too

That's a brilliant figure for a 2007, about 570 is my max for a tankful and I don't have a DPF.

Roy, that seems a long time, mine is up to temp after about 3 miles, even in this weather?

Yes the coolant will be but there is a lot of metal to warm up. The big increase in fuel consumption in the winter is for a reason. Try stopping and feeling the outside of the gearbox after that length of time.

I have a '03 163 D5 Auto with 142k on it. It's been fully serviced in the last 2000 miles including all fluids (gearbox, transfer box) and recently 2 litres of Liqui Moly diesel purge through it which I think makes a big difference.

The Mrs has just taken it on a 440 mile round trip with her work, she tends to stick to an indicated 70 mph on the motorway which I think is actually about 66 mph - fuel computer showing 40.8 mpg! I'm going to brim it tomorrow and work it out, I doubt it will be that but should be at least 36-38 I think. That's not bad at all really.

Sounds like the worst driving conditions possible for a D5.

33-34mpg. I have a 2011 d5 auto and do about two thirds of my journeys on motorways. Get about 500-600 miles on one tank.
