Thanks for the input.
I know what you mean about the plastics; I already have a 14 year old V70 and I can get them to look good for about a week!

Budget tyres..Mmmm. I usually go budget if I'm honest, but I only do about 5000 miles a year in it.
Brakes, easily done myself.I did spot the silver paint. I painted mine black when I replaced the disks last year, they looked good for a few months.... Made me feel good anyhow!

It is a strong contender and, as you say, it looks a good car. There is nothing major flagged up in MOT history, but I have a niggle.....

Thanks for that dude. I thought I'd swapped my XC70 for a duffer! xxxz

Every day mechanical repairs I can live with, I'll do them myself.
Odd stuff, well, to a degree, obviously I'd rather not.
Bodywork is what would put me off. Had enough chasing the tin worm in the 80s!
Not that I would expect that these days. Although I did look at a Kia Sorento a couple of weeks back: riddled with rust!

I don't think rust will be an issue, the paint finish on Volvos from around that time was outstanding. Repairs you can do yourself, but a new DEM could easily cost you a grand or more. Same with a CEM. Steering angle sensors and Yaw sensors aren't cheap. You need to assume something like that will go and budget accordingly. If it doesn't then great!

Yep. I've been reading about DEM and CEM.
Is there an easy way on test drive to prove these are working correctly?
The CEM seems to be a water ingress issue, is there a DIY fix to keep the water out?

Looks like all of my eggs are in this basket now...the BMW is sold today!
Still, my V70 will tow the caravan, so I can continue my search after my hols if I have to.

Other than checking codes (not with a generic reader) there is no way to tell. You will know when/if they go though because there will be error codes everywhere. This car is not in the model year worst affected by the CEM failure but it has failed in older vehicles regardless. Bottom line is that it is 15 years old - things will go soon enough on any vehicle that age. Budget accordingly and enjoy the ride .

Should the tailgate badges all be over to one side like that? Any panel fit issues?

At that age of car and given he is doing his own repairs I expect he will source second hand parts. Whilst the CEM is definitely dealer only, if it's working fine there's no reason really to think it's likely to fail suddenly.

Might be worth getting an AA or RAC inspection - they should have appropriate code readers too,
