Default XC90:- Options

What are peoples opinions of these options...

I have ordered a 2011 XC90 D5 Executive.

Options Ordered : Running Boards, Sunroof, Bluetooth.

I am considering these options:

Dark Tinted Rear Windows £360
IR Reflective Glass Windscreen & Front Windows £260
Rear AC Control £385.

The Dark Tinted Windows/Rear AC/POwer Child Locks is avail. for £600.

Is the factory tint better than aftermarket?

I am already getting an aftermarket RSE because they are more flexible.

Just my view....

I would lose the running boards - unless your dealer will supply and fit them for £300 which is the price Volvo Nottingham will ship them to you for, and fitting is a simple job as reported by several on here.

Factory tints are well worth it. No need to tell your insurance company for start.

I would review RSE - factory system has a different headrest so that the screens are more visible than on normal headrests and bigger screen than you can sensibly fit in normal headrests (*8 inches).
It also comes with tinted windows so factor that into your view.

I would add rear seat audio controls - but that is part of the family pack (with aircon / door locks I think).

I would want to know how the factory bluetooth will work -will it work with steering wheel phone buttons / show number in radio display etc first.

I would avoid the IR screen if it's same as on A8 , as on Audi it makes portable sat nav problematic ( of course - if Exec comes with RTI then this is not a problem )

I had an IR reflective screen on my wife's Galaxy and it never interfered with the Tom Tom nav we had, although I accept some may be more sensitive. With the integrated system on the exec it's not a problem anyway.

It did a good job of minimising heating in the summer on Austrian mountains and seemed worth the extra dosh.

Digital TV seems good so we can chill out on rest stops on long European drives and check out the local news/traffic/weather etc, unless we go to far East in which case we won't have a clue what anyone is talking about!

Is the Volvo RSE any good?

How does it compare to aftermarket offerings.

I hear they(Volvo) are releasing a Windows based, touch screen system later this year; not that it helps now.

We have the factory RSE on ours (twin 8" screens) ... no problems what so ever and the picture quality is brilliant we also had 3 sets of headphones supplied, again sound quality is brilliant ... cant fault it really.

Hope it helps

Jeffo, Im on my third xc90 the first had the headrest mounted dvd and they were use less in bright conditions even with privacy glass, also the third row cant see them. I had and have now a 10.5 inch flip down dvd player with four headsets (ir cannon ) its superb and can be viewd via all passengers in the back. £380 fitted including playstation out put . privacy glass worth the money though.

With the 10.5 inch flip down DVD screen can you still use the rear view mirror of the car?

The screens in the XC90 have been recently uprated too, to 8 inch and better viewing angle, so the problems with previous models may not be present now. Prior to that I heard of someone getting two free child booster seats from Volvo as their children could not view the playback!

when the cars fully loaded with kids you cant use the mirror much anyway. you may be right on the monitors though ? just think its too much to pay and you can take mine out and fit in your next car. Screen is high def too
