was it in and out play ? side play? which side, driver's or passengers ?

Mine is on the near side wheel only, hands at 3 & 9 o'clock, it had 2mm of play, I know it was definitely at the rack as I checked it when changing the inner tie rods.

I've been for a drive this evening since turning it and although the steering is a bit heavy (I'm used to the P2 I've been driving so it may not be that heavy for a P80) the rattle I was getting whilst stationary in gear at certain wheel angles has reduced to hardly anything and the steering is much nicer.

I want to move back to my P80 as my permanent car and sell the P2, I'm just wondering if I should just change the rack whilst I've still got the P2 or not.

If you get a recon rack, post up which 'brand', model and source, and then let the forum know how it goes.

Lots of clean + paint it brigade operate in steering racks, but there are some decent ones 'Shaftec' is one I've heard of before, supply a local steering rack place and they seem to get on OK with them.

TRW or SMI are the original mftr's of these racks, but last few years the supply of TRW racks has dried up.
