Have you got the holding tool ? (mind you as Clan says, not essential for undoing but vital for tightening it )- BTW Volvo say you should use a new nut.

you will need a lot of air flow, what size is your compressor/tank, If you do not have the locking tool, you could lock the Brakes, I used a draper battery impact gun, to undo mine ,still took some doing, Dave |

If previous owner replaced the belt, not impossible he got the bolts way too tight.

As Dave suggests, small compressors with a built-in pressure regulator have a very restricted air flow - I took the pressure regulator off my Clarke compressor & it made a big difference to air tool performance.
If your compressor has a regulator like this one, remove it: (remove the bit with the smaller pressure gauge on it) http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/d...97c2c441b1.jpg

After about an hour ****ing about with it... and giving it a bit of localled heat (and removing all restrictions in the airline - right back to removing the regulator from the compressor it finally gave.
Car is now up and running again. Letting it idle for a while to get some heat in now |

Hi That's Brilliant news,
What price was the head, was it complete, did they tell you how many miles It had done, did you replace anything while it was all apart, Thanks Dave |

Complete head (inc cam cover, cams, followers, valves etc) was about £180 delivered. Went to a machine shop for refurb... so mileage etc pretty irrelevant. Had a small skim, valves lapped in and new stem seals.
All good with the car... except there is a minor oil leak from cam cover |

Only marks on the pistons was where the (very thin) layer of baked on carbon was dislodged... no marks in the metal.
TBH its a relatively low mileage lump, and there arn't that many lowish mileage facelift euro 3 manual cars out there... especially not with with good history and a new clutch/flywheel etc. Just a bugger the pattern water pump didn't last the cambelt interval! |
