Hi a fully charged battery should show 12.5v to 13v providing it's charging properly when standing after charging for 24 hrs. Directly after charging it should show nearer 14v but subside to the lower voltage after a couple of hours. If you can , hold a voltage meter on the battery while someone starts the car .A serious dip in voltage will show up if any cells are defective. The last battery in my V70 was the original and lasted nearly 8 years ,not bad IMO. Beware when replacing battery as a higher capacity job is available/ listed but it is about 3/4 inch too tall to fit the cover ! Also allow the car to stand for 10 minutes with everything turned off before disconnecting the battery or fault codes /damage to electrics can occur.

Thank you.. It is showing 270 cca and is bad.. Starting it up from the machine he had started the car fine without the message about the parking brake.. He is going to leave in powered down for 10 mins before disconnecting the battery..

p.s It is the original battery.

Showed 12.6 volts and 270 cca (capacity 800)

edit..

All replaced and car has started up fine 4 times in a row without the Parking Brake Service required message.. Finger crossed it stays that way

Oh yeah.. forgot to add that the old battery was also leaking...

Hi,
I had this message pop up about a month ago but its popping up more often now. I used the torque app and got a fault code of p061e Internal Control Module Brake Signal Performance. Everything is working fine park brake etc, any pointers?

Cheers
Simon

Wow! What a fab information source this Forum is!

I am also getting the error message - intermittently. Dealer says it is a fault in the electronics of the Parking brake module, and the whole thing has to be replaced - at a cost of more than £350.

I am going straight to Halfords to get this cca test.

Thanks again - and fingers crossed!

I came from my MG ZT V6 to the C70, loved the mg and was so reliable but easy to work on apart from the dreaded cambelt cost of nearly £700!!

Update - been to Halfords and had the battery checked.... Boo hoo! It still has a reading of 700 cca, so it does not appear to need replacing..... consequently the error message still appears from time to time.

Any other ways of avoiding the £350 cost of a whole new parking brake control unit?

Default Parking brake needs service/sensors need service

Good Day All,

I'm hoping that somebody will be able to assist.
I have a volvo s80 v8 2007 model, recently i received the error of "parking brake needs service" my brakes are not locked or anything, it is still working.
Then suddenly now i also get the following error "park sensors need service" and my park sensors are not working at all.

Does the park brake and park sensors work through fuses?

Any suggestions/comments?

I don't just want to take it to the dealer as they can be really expensive and sometimes it's something small that can be fixed at home.

Your help is much appreciated

Hi,

The parking sensors and parking brake are two different systems,

The parking brake is discussed above, it seems prudent to get you battery tested as this could offer a low cost and quick fix

The parking sensor will need some kind of diagnostics to identify the exact issue, there is a map of users with VIDA here:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=136759

There is a separate thread running here that could be of assistance:

Hope that helps
