Default Euro 3 D5 cambelt gone...

Help guys!

I'm stuck on the motorway (awaiting recovery) with a snapped cambelt.

Its a 2004/2005 Euro 3 D5.

I know the head/valves will be totalled but is anything else likely to have gone (its peeing out coolant so fully expecting the water pump to have failed.

Apart from a new head/valves/cambelt kit/gasket kit what else should I be buying and any tips or tricks?

How many miles on your vehicle or on that cambelt?

SInce you're going in you may just renew the accessory belt and its tensioner.
Anything you touch to reach your work is a candidate for replacement.

I don't know the layout (no diesels in No. America) but-for example-if the PS reservoir is to be moved out of the way as with a petrol engine, you may just want to dump its contents for new.

Would an alternator doused with coolant need to be hosed down with electrical cleaner?

Car has 147,000

Cambelt done 2 years ago just before 100K

Now its safe I have whipped the cover off. Belt is intact (with frayed edges) tensioner and idler are both present and in good order. Water pump on the other hand is seized and pulley at a slight angle...

I am willing to bet that when the cambelt was changed the water pump was changed for no reason with an inferior part... does that go for the belt kit too ?
I would find a second hand head and go from there .. use new Volvo parts for the repairs .

The car has a pretty comprehensive service history... and no evidence of the pump being changed...

Other than the obvious what other bits am I likely to need?

Im assuming a 2nd hand head should be skimmed?

Some suggestions on facebook that it may be ok... but im calling BS on that...
