What oil is everyone using?
Looking to service our 2007 xc90 D5 soon but the 0/30 is a good bundle more pennies than 5/30.
Seen people using 5w with no problems but not sure if it would cause damage to the engine/turbo? Don’t want to risk it for the extra £40/50 I would be spending in oil.

When I had my S60 D5 185 I used Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 for over 60k changing it every 10k with a new filter.
The car never missed a beat and was running perfectly at 112k when I sold it.

Far better to use 5-30 and ignore the long service interval.
10k max, genuine or Mann filters. I use shell helix a5.

Let it go the full 18000 miles there is no way this is a bad thing at all , it is what Volvo say and it works in real life , changing it at 18000 miles is cheaper than using a cheaper oil and changing it at 10000 miles . Just look inside the oil filter housing when you change the oil and filter , it will be as clean as the day it was new if you are following volvos recommendations ...

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF 5/30.
It is A5/B5 compliant. Which is what a D5 needs. I oil change every 6 months, or 6k, with a MANN HU17/18 filter, which is what Volvo use, but far cheaper than from Volvo. So 2 oil changes a year, with 5/30 for the last 3 years with no issues. Runs lovely. OIL. I wait until they have 35-50% deals off. Its very cheap then. but good oil. https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/c...2611&0&cc5_247 MANN (volvo original oil filter) https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/V...a73aa15&000231 I get 2 oil changes per year fro less than 1 running to 12k. With very good oil. |

I use Comma X-Tech 5w30. It is A5/B5 and quite cheap - about £25 for 5l. I too change it every 10k ish on both my D5’s and my wife’s V50 2.0d.
FYI I think the cheapest oil in spec is ASDA own label.

I have been using triple qx from Eurocarparts 0-30 spec for nearly four years I’ve had my xc90, I change it every year which is about 10-12k.
It’s quite good value if you use the discount code as well I ran it in my s60 d5 for 8 years aswell. |

Millers?
I visited the very nice Millers Oil factory in West Yorkshire a few years back, they had just launched their Nano drive tech oil - the sales pitch sounded good, with lots of charts proving how low the friction was and convincing lab demonstrations. Its pretty cheap at Opie Oils HERE now- so I'm using that currently. Seems fine (can't say I've noticed an uptick in economy though) - and a UK family company.
