Default After-market TPMS?

Anyone for or against fitting an aftermarket system? I tried external monitors (screwed onto the valve cap) with a 'cigarette lighter' mounted display; they worked well for a while (and indeed warned me of a slow puncture developing on a nearside wheel) but packed up eventually.

I like the concept of internal monitors, but am not sure whether they are worth the hassle. Anyone any experience of a good make for a V40?

Why not develop a tyre technology that doesnt rely on inflation? Such as a foam filling or such like.

Then you wont get punctures, dont need the complexity and guaranteed unreliability of electronics, dont need a spare and dont have the safety risk of a blowout.

Or is this just to much like providing a solution rather than patching up the inherent weaknesses of 100 year old inflatable technology?

Run-flats are a partial solution, but they have other problems.
