I'm not familiar with the buying a new Volvo process.But to me it doesn't make sense, last week I was told that it was on the assembly line, today I'm told it's not even built and has been put back until next week, what happens next week is anyone's guess.

Very strange......I cant say that I am that familiar as well, but the longest we ever waited for a new Volvo was 14 weeks (XC60 - 2009). Usually seems to be around 8 weeks (V70 2003, XC60 2016, V40 2013 - 9 weeks).

Every manufacturer is different.....I waited 5 months for an MB 2006 C-Class 320Cdi, 5 months for my 2015 Mustang and 4 months for 2x Audi's 2014 & 2017. The 2011 535d took 12 weeks.

Saying that, I wouldnt be surprised if it just turns up one day! My S6 had a dealer eta of late March this year the suddenly just turned up at the beginning of March....dealer had no idea. System still showed him a late March eta!

I guessing that it's probably out of the hands of the dealer, but surely in this computerised world it shouldn't be difficult to keep track of things. Even trucks are tracked these days .
But like you say it's possible that it could just turn up out of the blue.

Yes but you were told it had been built last week? That's slightly different to having no update. Something a bit strange here. Anyway any news about the general delivery state of new XC60s will be welcome.
When I got my present car you could track the progress yourself online (albeit it was slow in updating) but now things have gone backwards it seems. My dealer says he won't know anything until he receives an e mail telling him when the car is to be delivered. Not impressive really in this day and age.

Well mine didn't show up yesterday, but the excellent corporate sales folk at the dealers have confirmed they've had the 'in transit to dealer' email that means it usually arrives within 48 hours. So they have the chassis number, I have a registration number and we're hopefully still on for Friday.

The one thing I do know is that it's bloody annoying to be told that it's being built one day, then a week later that the build date has been put back. I suppose if I just sat back and waited for the car to arrive, I would be none the wiser about all this .
I'm hoping that I will get some answers today, but the truth is that they can tell what they want to, is it the truth, who knows!
I've found new XC60S at other dealess with a few hundred pounds off, but not to the spec I want. Perhaps that's what is causing the delay, my specifications.
At the moment I feel a bit like a mushroom, kept in the dark and fed bull sh**

I understand how you feel, I also now see that there are discounts available so the fact that we early purchasers haven't got our cars yet is not nice. I think you should ask why you were told it was built when it wasn't. Are you looking at October now or just end Sept?

UPDATE.
Had a phone call this afternoon from dealership. Car is now expected at the dealership on Monday 18th September.
Dealer is going to ring to me to comfirm delivery to them, or not!
I live in anticipation of that call.
