Replacement Carb for B200/230 Engine
I am running my Volvo 240 Estate with a B200K engine from a Volvo 360 and the inlet manifold /carb from the original B230K.
The question I have is whether the Pierburg Carb is setup only to handle a B230 engine only or whether it would work correctly on the B200 - the B200 was only fitted with the Cisac Solex carb I believe. The car is running but I think the secondary throttle is not working correctly plus there is little scope for adjustments. The carb is overly complex (the original engine had the pulse air system) and I am not sure it is tunable for the B200 engine. Has anyone fitted a WEBER conversion kit to Volvo 240?

I've no direct experience of that conversion, but I did change a Cisac on a B230K to a Stromberg from a B21, changing the needle to one giving a slightly richer mixture for the larger engine.
I think if a carburettor will physically fit, ie you have the appropriate manifold or a converter piece, then you can re-jet it to suit almost anything. Gower Lee or the Carburettor Hospital are the people to advise on jet and needle changes. When I rang up Gower Lee, the moment I said the word "Cisac" the very helpful man said "bin it" ! |

I put a 34DMTL Weber on a B230K 740 and it works brilliantly. Carb is actually a manual choke conversion kit for a 1.6 Sierra but I have not needed to change the jets, surprisingly. Look for the old threads on 700 Weber etc.

Steve Curtis over on the 700 side of things has carried out a Weber conversion as well.
If your carb came from a different capacity engine the jets are defintely going to need changed. I would second the Gower and Lee recommendation as rejetting is a minefield. If you change one thing, you generally need to change it all. Unless you have an SU Cap

I like the idea of fitting reconditioned Stromberg carb from a B21 engine together with a B21 inlet manifold. The linkages for the throttle and choke I believe are the same.
Can anyone confirm this?

That may have been because I hadn't kept all the bits from the old car. The choke cable I think just connected straight up. Also I'd lost the plate that bolts on the intake side of the Stromberg, together with the plastic intake elbow. I made a plate to fit the larger elbow from the Cisac. |

I have managed to source a complete inlet manifold, Stromberg carb and airfilter from a B21 engine.
The carb will need a good clean up or a rebuild. I would imagine that the inlet manifold from a B21 would fit on a B200K engine. Then I would have a 1987 retro Volvo with a simple carb. Can I use the standard throttle cable from Pierburg Carb?

i have only just read this thread, although i run a b230a (perburg cd175) i quickly ditched the 175cd for a webber dtmr 32/36. the difference i can only say is amazzzzzzing. the maniflod is far more balanced and has better flowing carteristics than 175 one. it completely changed the way in which the engine performs. much better performance, better on fuel. much better surport from the likes of webcom and others.
from my experience there is little surport and little info on the perburg and stromberg carbs, they are both over complex versions of the SU, which is a very very good carb. if needed i still have the old inlet manifold for the 175cd if required but he carb was given to friend as a working donor for his engine. just my thoughts neil |
