And did you see the "professional" welding in the last 2 seconds of the video? the welder seems to have Parkinson's disease and not only that, they're welding on a car chassis already in its paint coat!

Why not little green and yellow and all the other colours, women? arghhh!
Seriously it wont be long before we are considered a third world country with no manufacturing base, remember that's what made us a world class country in the first place. Why did we become an industrialised country? because we ate grain instead of rice. Seriously, grain had to be ground, where as rice didn't. this led to the development of water driven mills etc.

A great man once said

Toffee town because we had Rowntree Mackintosh and Rileys, two of the big names in sweet manufacturing, big employers again. Wire town because we had three large wire manufacturers, Standard Wire, Smith Wires and Carrington binns, all with large workforces. I worked in the wire industry in halifax for 26 years, its all now sadly gone, the last of them being carringtons who sold out to the Russians who in turn shut the factory down and shipped the machinery out to Russia where the wire can be produced at a fraction of the cost in comparison to what it would cost here in Britain. Halifax is now known as ghost town with any remaining industry hanging on by the skin of their teeth, its a shame that Volvo has gone to the chinese, in real terms Volvo has gone, never to be the same again, Volvo as we know and love these cars is finished, why they simply didn't re-name the marque i will never know, Volvo is now just a run of the mill car with a prestige badge. |

800dly Hell my friend that post has depressed me so much I am going to double up my valium intake today. Joking apart. I had a Jaguar STR for 3 years in a gap between Volvo's. Jaguar now owned by TaTa so it was Ta Ta to my Jaguar. Now Volvo has gone to China. I have no intention of getting a new one so it looks like my T5 will be with me till I kick the bucket. Volvo Truck and Marine are still owned by Renoult. If you really want to get depressed see what the Chinese have done to the MG. I fear that Land Rover manufacturing will be moving to India. I understand some of the tools have gone allready. |

All the so called 'must have' essentials to me are just so much unnecessary window dressing. I'm afraid that heated steering wheels, paddle gearshifts, automatic handbrakes and all that sort of bling leave me stone cold. They get more like toys every day. Give me a solid, spacious, roomy, reliable and reasonably fast estate anyday, and if they brought back the 940 just as it was, I reckon they would sell stacks of them. The car world is always trying to outdo itself, and a bit like politicians, if they stood back for a day or so, and actually LISTENED to what people want from a car, they would find the answer right under their noses. But....sadly as always.....just like politicians. They know best............

IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS
How many times have we herd that. Last time I drove behind a new Jaguar XF it took me a while to realize it was a Jaguar. You are correct they all look the same other than the Jaguar XKR which is the dogs. My Partner and self purchased a Mazda2 Sport Jan 2010 nice car but it looks like a ford like any other etc etc. |

I think what happened is that the workers were having a break and then noticed a television camera and so they panicked. If you want to compare Volvo's old production methods to Geely's then there is about 20mins of youtube videos showing 240 bodies being assembled. I'm sad enough to have watched them through! Basically, 20mins of spot-welding! You will notice that the Volvo workers did use hammers, but not for straightening out a whole bonnet. 240 Production Video 1 240 Production Video 2 Going off on a tangent... One for the 240 geeks: In the video, what is the purpose of the vertical metal piece in the centre of the windscreen?
