It will be good for business in 2 years when day running lights become law , the dealers will be rubbing their hands in glee as you all pop in to pay to have them turned on again ;-)
why turn them off ? The 2005 on cars have voltage regulators feeding the headlamp bulbs and tail bulbs now so life is a lot longer than it used to be ...

It's been done to death this one! - including the issues surrouding the insurance. You should declare it, you have modified the car from standard.
So when your saying it's not been modified your telling a fib. Insurance companies never like paying out and something like this will be just what they are looking for. It shouldn't make any difference to your premium, but some brokers don't touch cars that have been "modified" their "computer" won't let them!

It will save on fuel, but where do you stop?
Stop using the air-con?
Stop using the blower?
Stop using the rear demister?
Stop using the heated seats?
Stop using the ICE?
Stop braking so as not to waste energy lighting up the bulbs!

Sure they consume energy but the amount is negligable compared to everything else. HOWEVER add up all the cars that have DRL's plus when it will soon be compulsory, and the impact is definitly not small.

Morning Viper

I have spoken to Volvo Owners Insurance this morning, explained the process of Dealer de-activation of the running lights; asked if this is a material matter from an insurance point of view; and asked if they needed to be notified of the lights being de-activated.
The advice I got from Volvo Owners Insurance (Royal &Sun Alliance Insurance) was that this is no problem. Obviously this doesn't mean that it may be different with other insurers.

Chris,

get it in balck and white for your keeping. if the worse did happen and we hope not, some other guy might deny it. So to cover yourself and sleep well at nights, ask them for a letter stating that it won't be a problem in any event of a claim.

cheers
