Default Recommendation for Amazon Restoration Please

Having woken our '66 122s from quite a long sleep and thoroughly checked it over, I have concluded that a fairly extensive restoration may be on the cards.

I have always spannered our Amazons but don't weld or do bodywork and don't have facilities for major mechanical disassembly/reassembly and so am hoping that somebody may be able to recommend a restorer who knows Amazons.

Car needs some metal smithing such as rear wheel arches but no major surgery would appear to be necessary. Engine is excellent, brakes nearly new, Gearbox and diff are both noisy now, so probably both need a rebuild. Clutch is not that old and is ok, overdrive works fine but all suspension bushes definitely need doing (I have a full set of polybushes). I am thinking a full mechanical strip down/reconditioning and a glass out body job is required.

Anyone know someone they can vouch for? Any ideas of budget required for the above? Thanks.

I am in West Dorset but am prepared to travel with the car to a recommended restorer.

Hi!

If Norfolk is too far away from you, I have a FANTASTIC guy here near Exeter. He has worked at Volvo in Exeter for many, many years and his mechanical abilities are superb. As well, he's a thoroughly nice fellow!

His speciality is more mechanical and not bodywork. However, he is very capable to strip down the car then send the body off for repairs, panel work and paint followed by re-assemble. He uses a company here in Exeter which I have no personal experience of, but am told is good and reasonable. Myself, for bodywork I use Southwest Splitz which is VW aircooled specialist, but very good and do many different cars including my Volvos.

I say, if you wanted to get the thing to a good mechanical standard and roadworthy, he'd be great.

Graham's rate is crazily low and his speed of work is brilliant. But, all this is in his spare time alongside his main job at Kastner Volvo, Exeter, so it can be slow progress.

Before he can start on your car though, he needs to finish my Volvo 142!!!

Get in touch if you'd like an introduction.
