Trim Level & Insurance Mods
So I've had my S40 for about 10 months now, it's a 2001 2.0 Petrol, but I've started having questions about it's trim level. I thought it was just the standard S trim, but have since found out I have a front bumper splitter which apparently isn't on the standard trim. Here's what the car looked like when I got it:
Here's what is definitely has:
And this is what it definitely doesn't have:
Any idea what trim level it is? Oh, and here's what it looks like now: I've done the following (all very minor):
On the subject of mods, I was wondering what level of mods require you to tick that box on your car insurance saying the car is modded? |

light bulbs to led , not a "mod" they are just a replacement part headlight brows , not a "mod" as its just a stuck on bit of trim flat wipers,, ditto the "replacement part" aux hack and phone holder > no need. no one in their right mind would expect people to tell the insurance con artists that they put a satnav holder onto the screen, or plugged a "tape to cd adapter into the tape slot", which those deffinatly fall into the same cat. Mods needing to be notified id say were things like Changed wheels from non volvo alloys to "other make alloys" changed wheels and tyres from "standard size as in the hand book " to "bigger/fatter/wider" Any "performance mod" that increases engine power output Any Changes to brakes > fitting bigger disks/calipers/ aftermarket brembo type calipers (not changing pads/disks for "same as orriginal but in other makers box/pattern parts)

Trim levels on S / V40's seem to be hit and miss, it seems to depend what boxes were ticked at the time of purchase.
My 2001 S40 T4 sport had no headlight wipers no full leather no Info Centre No heated Seats No rear electric windows No factory HID's No Cruise Control Yet my 2002 V40 T4 Sport has everthing listed as not on the S40 (apart from no cruise control), about the only common trim was the alloys, and the front & rear spoilers.... |

volvo and "trim level" and spex level they have "s/slux/Xs/sport/cd"
but the reality is who ever ordered it can add / subtract just about anything they please... ive seen S without headlight wash/wipe But with heated seats, and ones with headlight wash/wipe,,Without heated seats,, splitting the "winter pack", leather/ climate control/sunroof /info center /etc seem to be added on or taken off mixed and matched without much regard to keeping the "pack" whole or the trim to a "S" or "lux" standard..

Thanks guys, you've confirmed what I was thinking re mods.
Someone has helpfully provided me with the full S40/V40 Variants & Packs data. It looks like I actually have a Sport but just without the Info Centre. The car is down as an S40 S on my insurance, should I bother letting them know it's actually a Sport? |

So we reckon the insurance company won't care that the trim level is a Sport and not an S? |

IF your V5C says "S" , then the insurance peeps need to know its says "S" If your V5C says "Sport" then the insurance peeps need to know its says "sport". As long as the info you have told them is the same as the V5C , you cant be in the wrong. If you were to say "its a Sports" ,yet your v5c says "S" ,,they may well raise eyebrows as the car your describing doesnt fit the records.
