For some reason the economy drops off a notch or two on the VEA engine when the temperature falls below about 6 degrees. I've also dropped a bit since the car was re-shod with Scorpion Verde instead of Eco Contact. But I'm not going back...

And you live in very flat country, I doubt you would get such impressive figures in the Yorkshire dales where I do most of my motoring. I can't compair like for like as I have 2.0ltr fwd. I get 40 ish in winter, 48 ish in summer and up to 54mpg on our annual touring holiday, including the highlands.

In the last 83,000 miles my 2013MY D5 AWD 230ps Geartronic, averages about 32/33 in normal driving (motorway makes little difference) and towing 1750kg it drops to about 22/23mpg.

Reminds me the 3rd pair of front tyres need to be replaced now its done 91,000 miles....

My Dec 2015 D5 AWD manual gives a genuine 37mpg with mixed driving. I’m rather sad and have kept records of trip readings between fill up’s and also fuel used to fill it back up again.

That's a bit low. Do you do a lot of slow urban driving ?

What? My 3.2 v6 Alfa does 23mpg (M40 A40 commutes mostly). Your figure can't right surely?

FWIW my 2.0l FWD XC60 is returning well over 40 so far.....admittedly I drive like a vicar these days.....

LOL...you need a new hobby Mick. Frequented an Alfa Forum for 15 years, never read anything like that!
