940 front seat belt buckle release buttons.
1992 940 estate, 2.0L petrol. non turbo, 215,000 recorded miles.
The red button that is pressed to release the buckle. Both front seat buttons have disintegrated, probably due to age. They are still operational but I would like to replace the buttons if possible. Dealer advises that they are only able to supply the entire buckle costing in excess of £80.00 each. Any suggestions please guys? Last edited by Ian21401; Feb 11th, 2018 at 20:14. My ones did the same a few years ago now. I thought about getting some of a breaker too at the time however if you find any goods left it's probably safe to suggest that they wont be too far behind breaking either.
You can get aftermarket replacements which is what I did in the end. I cant remember where I got my ones from now (probably Amazon or eBay) but a quick google brought these up: https://www.ipdusa.com/products/5513...eptacle-button One final point of note. You will need to ensure you retain the spring that lives under the red button as this will need refitting with the new buttons. Hope this helps? Best of luck Ben

It's an easy fix the red buttons are held with a plastic clip forming part of the red molding on each side. As it disintegrating you can lever it free with a very fine screw driver slipped down the side.
Go to a breakers and get yourself some good ones from the backseat buckles (they are nearly unused!), and then just push them in place on your car. Beware there is 1 little spring under the red button that must be kept and put in place as it 'holds' the button in the up position. You will find that depending on model year that the buckles were common across a lot of Volvo models. Thanks for the info. guys, and for the "how to" bob 12. I had done a couple of searches but the parameters I used didn't bring up your thread.
I'm fully retired now so I'll have a day out around the local breakers' yards when the weather improves. There haven't been many Volvos of this vintage around in my area lately (south east Northumberland ) but I may be lucky. I also need another pair of decent "wind-tone" horns as the ones I fitted a decade ago are getting a bit weak. A bit like me. |

I trust you are enjoying your leisure days ... you will be amazed where every one day goes.
Even down South there are now no 700's of whatever flavour in 'traditional' beakers yards and, that's assuming you can find such yard. I blame 'elf et safty' and, the scrapage scheme, together with the then high scrap prices for a weighty bit of steel!!! 700's are becoming a premium identity, but unfortunately NOT the re-sale price for 'a nice little runner'. You just have to look at the DVLA statistics showing the tumble in 'road taxed 700's'. I have been about locally and through Surrey and Sussex recently and haven't seen one 700 or 900 in my travels. Once they were prolific but, there's still a Main Dealer just down the road, and 'more modern' Volvos continue to be well represented on the road in the area. Bob. |

I once go stuck in one of my 940s when the seat belt buckle button decided to stop doing anything while I was still fastened in. I'd driven up to see my dad. It was quite funny really. Having pulled up outside, I had to send my wife to knock out the door and ask my dad for some tools. In the end it was a trusty old hammer that got me free. I had to smash the buckle to smithereens before it would release me. Cost me about a tenner for a replacement second hand one.
Sorry, that doesn't help. I just thought it might amuse. But on a more serious note, if it's starting to fail, maybe have a backup plan for getting free if it decides not to release you. |

Mine are shot too, using the back ones in the front now, but even those look horrible with aging.
