I'm really interested to see how it benefits my D4 AWD. On paper, it's a healthy power increase to 220bhp but I'm really hoping the gearbox is substantially improved from the current poor set up

If I'm not happy with it, I'll get it removed and revert back to my original plan of getting the paddles installed
The increase in power for a D4 AWD puts you almost equivalent to a D5, so it should make a significant difference.

Yes, power is the same and so is peak torque but where a D5 has 440Nm from 1500-3000 rpm, a Polestar D4 peaks at 1500.

I'm not sure of the physical differences between a D4 and D5 as both are 2.4 twin turbo. I assume the turbos are different sizes but I'm sure there's more to it than just that

Yes there certainly is. The list price difference is about 2k, much more than the Polestar cost, and of course if you have a D5 you can Polestar this to get even more. The specific differences to account for £2k don't seem to be in the public domain.

This isn't scientific, but if you look on the rica website all 2.4 twin turbo engines can be mapped to the same max power including the d5 and d6 hybrid engines.

Makes me suspect there is little to no difference between them, but saying that with polestar you know everything will, er should be ok with the increases

Well, it looks like my Admiral multi-car insurance will add £25 for the remaining 7 months with Polestar, so not too bad.... I plan to give it a try.
Just need to figure out why my preferred dealer (who has confirmed they can and do install Polestar!) is NOT on the MyVolvo offer page as a dealer I can pick: doh!!
Will report back later (assuming we figure it out)

Had mine done this week - its lovely!

In normal D (auto box) it feels more eager and smoother, stick it into S and it kicks you back in a pleasing way ;-)

If you are sat on the fence its the best £635 you will spend on the car!

Had mine done on Tuesday.

I must say that so far I don't feel it was worth the money.

In D, it still runs too high a gear meaning the car is sitting below the torque.

In S, there is a definite change. The box definitely changes quicker and keeps the engine in the torque.

it doesn't feel any more powerful or faster so I may just have it removed within the 14 day period and go back to my plan of getting the paddles fitted.

We have a road trip on Saturday so I'll decide after that

Due to emissions in D the box will always go in to give gear very early on. With polyester you will notice a part throttle down shift on light acceleration which is not there from stock.
Even with polyester on a twisty country road in S you still need to manually down shift in order to set the car up for the corner.
99% of drivers will just break and then accelerate but if you want to "drive" the car then you are always going to have to manually shift when required.
My next upgrade is paddles.

Unfortunately highest gear isn't the most efficient. Running an engine at peak torque is the most efficient so it's frustrating the way D works.

Having had the opportunity to do a decent drive today with around half in S I think I will leave the Polestar in place as I found that I wasn't looking for the manual shift much at all. I'll still look to get the paddles but at this point they're not so urgent

Completely agree with you on setting the car up for corners. Having done a fair bit of advanced training with both car and bike, it makes a massive difference to be in the right gear all the time

Yep me to, my job was teaching engineers how to drive and test cars to the limit,.....Happy days lol.
The S side of the polyester is good and I find power delivery is much more controlled and balanced over the factory S setting.
