Default 2018 XC90 Park Assist System unavailable!

Hi All,
My 2 month old XC90 has issues its first warning/failure message.
"Park Assist System unavailable. Service required"

Based on your experience is this a software issue or could the sensors have blown up so early?

They worked intermittently thou!

Cheers
Dev

I had this flash up last week, it was ok next time I started car, now and again one or two system icons may grey out in the sensus screen temperelary and you may get a message to say unavailable but they usually come back next time you start the car and rarely need servicing, Nothing to worry about unless they stay unavailable.
Its worth mentioning next time you visit the dealer though,

I get this. Mainly on wet and grubby days on the motorway. If flashes up and then it goes away.

My assumption is that the park assist requires the cameras and sensors to work. When they get covered in muck the car cant run park assist so warns that park assist doesnt work. It doesnt seem to realise that at 70ish on the motorway I am not likely to be doing much parking.......

That makes a lot of sense. Thats when it flashed up on my XC90 last week, on the A19 dual carriageway in drizzly conditions and salty road.

I get it sometimes. If it means the auto parking system then I find it pretty unusable anyway so no big loss.

This type of scary message has popped up three times on my BMW - resolved completely with a quick wipe of the parking sensors and cameras.
Neon, why do you find the auto parking system unusable? I ask because although mine is pretty useful 90% of the time, it sometimes just doesn’t take over and leaves me floundering, usually with cars behind me! Is that your problem?

Does anyone know anyone who uses this option? About as much use as a chocolate teapot. Still, makes a good marketing tool that only takes a small tweek to the software to achieve.

+1, never actually had it on motorway, but on very wet lanes around here we occasionally get it. Its 100% got to be something to do with sensors getting mucky.

It's a clever party trick but having had the option on my last three Volvos I have used it precisely twice, both times just to prove that it worked as expected. Whilst it works it's just bit too much of a faff to use in the typical situation with a stream of traffic behind you.

I think the PA unavailable message coming on when driving, is for the front and rear bumper sensors (the parking distance beepers) as a warning they may not work when you stop and park up so dont rely on them stopping you hitting anything after seeing this warning until you have cleaned the sensors. (Cleaning sensors is the Service required)

I never ever use the park assist pilot (PAP) which is such a faff on and having 360° cameras and front and rear park assist its just not needed, and as was mentioned above cars behind waiting for you to sort yourself out and get in the space is a problem. Easier and quicker to park it yourself. But park assist (PA) is used all the time.
