May I ask, yet again, where did the hype diesel=bad come from?

Loadsa big petrols have much much worse emissions, yet nobody calls for these to be scrapped..

So where did this come from, I'm asking?

Politicians saying so? And you believed them?
Scientists confirming? Who sponsored research?

Is it that you all slant diesels based on belief and gossip, or ate there actually grounds for that approach?
I mean- ground OTHER than "my neighbour/sisters postman/milkman from town 60 miles from me said so, and he drives a lot so surely knows what he's talking about"..

Behaviour of flick of sheep..

All the sheep following what the government say 🤣🤣 told everyone to buy diesel as its so much better, now they tell us we should all sell the diesels they told us to buy a few years back! Just another scam to con the public as usual.

There's a link (under the first yellow section) which downloads the new rule book, section 8 is all about emissions. Quite a bit of info on it so happy reading.

My understanding was any signs of altering /dpf removal - fail, outside manufacturer figures -fail.
I'm not sure if that wold do the trick,i mean no matter how hard you trash it,diesel will always produce some smoke. Anyway, thanks for suggestion and link

The MAY 2018 new MOT additions are not finalised yet .Knowing the Government and MOT's I expect there will be a few revisions ! They were going electronic in 1995 and bought up 1000's of computers , there were delays When the electronic system was finally introduced in 2005 they were issued with the 10 year old Computers and modems which had been in storage ! All worth about £30 each by then .

Well I was told about it from my consultant when he diagnosed my emphysema.
He put the blam firmly on the diesel fumes I had been breathing from years working in the transport industry.

I am certainly not asking anyone to scrap their car petrol or diesel as it happens I currently drive a diesel car but the DPF will be staying on as would the Cat if I drove a petrol engined car. It is time to wake up to pollution and do what we can to reduce it rather than going back to the old days of black soot belching out when you hit the throttle.

Modern direct injection petrols produce particulates like pre dpf diesel.

When I was about 16-17, can't remember exactly, late spring it was, I happened to suffer from one very very itchy rash on tops of my hands and, strangely, ears.
When I went to my local doctor, I was told I had reaction to some grease or chemical from dafs workshop. Small town, the doctor was quite frequent client to the workshop with all sorts of broken things- car battery charger, lawnmover.. Anything electrical. Half of those I was fixing and he knew.

It took me several years to establish that I had no allergic reaction to any chemical.
It was the sun. No, not the newspaper, however I did develop mental allergy to that one later
It was the sun and my skin takes much much longer to adjust itself when clouds go.

So why did he say it was grease?
Because it was easier. He knew I spend time with stuff, so here's the answer.

A few years ago I developed a deep heavy cough.
Went to GP and immediately was issued with asthma spray.
Fine by me, under condition that it'll help.. It didn't.
It took 3 months of fight against my GP to be referred to a specialist at local hospital.
And another 2 months wait for appointment.
During these 2 months I happened to get ear inflammation.
Was given antibiotics, within week ear was fine, and cough gone.
Did my online research, and decided to keep appointment at hospital.
So, when it was my turn to go in, I wasn't even surprised when opening line was "So, a whooping cough, eh?"

"Yes.. Yes it was. But I was given antibiotics for something else, these sorted out the cough, I'm better, can you please send letter to my GP saying he's a c**t and shouldn't be allowed to treat horses"

"I will, maybe not in exact words but I will. Don't worry about that asthma thing- they have it on agenda and issue to everyone who coughs, needs it or not"

So.. You said your doctor told you diesel bad, yes?
Knowing that you work in transport..
How does he know?
I'm not saying he's wrong nor right.
I'm asking- how does HE know?

With regards the revised MOT from May , please take the time to read the draft version of the manual I will have to use
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...and-7-vehicles

It will stop any scaremongering from the various media sources ( daily Fail & jeremy Whine spring to mind ). Also all this rubbish about diesel , heres an extract from a special notice ( Fact not fiction )

2.2 What you need to know

The amended limits to be applied from 20 May 2018 are:
1. First used before July 2008 None turbo 2.5m-1 or plate value if lower
Turbo 3.0m-1 or plate value if lower
2. First used on or after 1 July 2008 All diesels 1.5m-1 or plate value if lower
3. First used on or after 1 January 2014 All diesels 0.7m-1 or plate value if lower

The only REAL difference is for engine from Jan 2014 onwards . I have been checking for these plate values since the notice was issued & not had anything to concern me yet

A hot engine is more efficient than a cold engine. Don't forget apart from visible smoke they will still test the exhaust gas output.
