Default Odd ticking sound ..B18

On way back home from good wood I was getting an other tick sound only noticeable at idle, not effecting the performance at all...sounds like its coming from rocker cover so guessing can shaft tick or a lazy tappet/ push rod ?

That's how my fiber timing gear started off before it disintegrated!

The noise is quite odd and not like tappet rattle. More like a catching type sound. At first I thought it was the fan belt catching or something caught up...but it ain't.
Put stethoscope on engine and checked out dynamo, water pump and the placed it on rocker cover. Noise seems to be from inlet side.
Will be well racked off if it is the fibre gear as it is about 4 year old and car has not gone far. Will check it ( fibre gear)when I get a minute. And put stetho on that area.
Keep ideas coming

For what it's worth, when my fiber went belly up it started as a tick and quickly got louder and within one km failed. It had lost a tooth and a couple more followed. if yours is still running and only audible at tick over it's probably not the same. I wouldn't start stripping anything down yet.

No mate...its worth loads..and thinking it out the gears noise would use the rover coverto resonate sound. Cannot touch it until a week on Monday and I will try to upload the noise onto you tube...would value your input on this

Check your valve springs carefully when you have the rocker cover off. Depending where it has broken, a fractured spring may not be obvious, and may not noticeably reduce power, but can result in a tappety noise.
