The AMG blown four pot I mentioned earlier is proving very reliable, even when taken past 400hp. Its down to internals and overall design of the engine, the days of strapping on a big turbo are gone. What attracts me to the Polestar, both models, is that they reworked both engines. The four pot in particular shares many internals with the race engines, or so I have read with regards fuel, I have now owned over 200 cars...really...some real gas guzzlers amongst then, but it's always nice to know what these cars will manage on decent runs. I usually get more mpg than other drivers and I would expect any modern performance car to crack 30mpg on a run but likely drop to low twenties/sub twenty round town. Times are changing, even diesels are running more than 100hp a litre these days, a figure once the premise of highly strung engines in performance cars!!

If my XC90 popped a £5,000 repair bill that would be annoying but I would pay for it, and the vehicle you are looking at is likly to be in the same place.

More to the point is the ‘how many mpg’? I have not owned that model but have had similar large petrol engine vehicles. The truth is that if you drive it directly to a motorway and cruise at 65 you will probably
See 30mpg.

However when you are popping to local shops and back, or short journeys etc I would not be suprised to see 18mpg in reality!
I'm not looking at these cars to buy now man just intrigued to find out more about them for the future. It's always nice to know what to expect with regards fuel, don't you do your homework? I've run cars as diverse as Smart 450s and big bore Porsche V8 or BMW M car. If you buy a car, you gotta fuel it, whatever I decide to buy in a few years will be a third car, used on a weekend likley, but it woukd be nice to see enough MPG to use it on runs of several hundred miles. I'd expect most modern performance cars to pass 30mpg used sensibly on a decent run and most powerful SUVs to manage over 20. You buy with your eyes open but it's always good to hear of real owners experiences.

If we decide to buy something, it will be a 55th birthday present to myself and as I said earlier my 'modern' wish list covers everything from the latest Cooper S JCW GP, Kia Stinger, Nismo 370z, Lexus ISF; now that would be the sensible option, but could as easily be a ripple bonnet 2cv of PV 544 or the like. Our recent move means only on street parking which is why I am considering newer cars; for thr first time in a long time- but by the same token, don't be surprised if I'm still trundling around in my wee diesel mini in ten years. I'll keep it till it dies

When I had a longer commute I coukd average over 70mpg with little care. My new commute is much shorter and I have been driving quicker so it fell to 57mpg then around 53, now ots back up to 62mpg due to, well, due to the cost of fuel!!
