Heated Rear Window Repair
Having recently had the degraded Tints removed I find the work has damaged the HRW ie the bottom half does not work anymore this would seem to be a break in one of the vertical metal foil strips, assuming that the electrical feed is taken at the centre points Has anyone had any success in repairing the track on a Heated Rear Screen? I see metallic paint is available for this job but does it work?
Many Thanks in advance; Peter, |

I’ve used it in the past. It did work but it was very difficult to obtain a very thin line and the repair was always rather obvious.

Thanks for the reply, it could be easier for me I hope! because the break is on one of the side strips which is not normally visible unless there is damage to some of the horizontal strips as well.

|I tried it on my last car and it didn't work even after masking a thin line off to make it neat as possible. However, you may have more success.

My windscreen cover on my car Insurance covers windows and sunroof aswell. Maybe worth checking your policy. Mines £75 excess on replacements, £10 chip replairs.

The ironic thing is it's my Windscreen that really wants doing after 10 years it's become pitted not sure it's covered the same as a one-off stone hit! |

I heard about that when people our out of a job. You are apparently more inclined to have an accident as you may not fix issues with your car and buy budget tyres which aren't as good at braking. I'm sure they have some other excuses aswell.
As for pitting of your windscreen I doubt it's covered as it's not technically broken. Best speaking to a glass repairer about what's covered under insurance.

Just to catch up I've had a chance to have a good look in daylight and it's not a break in the vertical track as I thought. It is, in fact, large sections of the lower Horizontal grid strips have been removed while the Vinyl was peeled off taking the metallic bit with it.
So it's a case of put up with it or get a replacement. sounds expensive! So if you ever have to take Vinyl tint off the rear window be very, very careful! Last edited by V70d5peter; Feb 13th, 2019 at 19:54. |

Try scraping off what is there and install a retrofit one? I have no idea what the quality is like. Merely a suggestion.
