Default 73 plate XC40 Recharge Plus - parking sensors not consistent

Hi!

Had a new XC40 Recharge Plus delivered a couple weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it so far, except for one issue that almost resulted in disaster a couple days in.

When manoeuvring the vehicle out of our car park, I drove forwards towards a wall in Drive and the parking sensor didn't function. I continued to creep forwards until I began to worry I was going to make contact with the wall, then put the car in R and all of a sudden the diagram showing the parking sensors appeared and showed a red alert at the front driver side corner where the wall was closest. I put the car in Park and got out for a look - I was about 2" away from the wall.

I've since experienced this a handful of times and no longer trust the parking sensors. I think the sensors themselves are working fine but in some cases (usually when I've only just set off in the vehicle), the software doesn't seem to wake up until I activate reverse gear, at which point the sensors spring into life and tell me I was pretty close to driving into something.

Any ideas? There doesn't seem to be any settings on the dash related to this and my software is up-to-date. Parking sensors that aren't consistent seem nigh on useless, in fact worse than useless.

Any insight would be appreciated.
