Turns out the bolt that hold the bearing on the wheel sheered off when the mechanic was undoing it. I'm a fairly proficient mechanic myself and would find it difficult to mess up taking a bolt off? Ok, there are obvious mistakes you can make but these are old-school mechanics. Seems to that the bolt has been overtightened in the past.
What I find hard to believe is that Volvo/Ford use a bolt with a 10mm thread and 13mm head to hold the whole wheel bearing on! That seems ridiculously small and prone to shereing off. Things aren't what they used to be... |
