Tracking cost?
I noticed that when I hold my steering wheel level, my car (2008 V50) is pulling to the left. I popped into kwik fit to see if they could have a look and after 10 minutes on the machine with all the lasers, they told me that the tracking is way out and would need fixed. The guy was kind enough to give me a print out of where the wheels were off but explained that they are not allowed to adjust them as my car has cruise control and DTSC. He advised that I take it to a Volvo dealer to have the wheels corrected and said that I should do it sooner rather than later as one of the front wheels is quite bad.
The service department at my local dealership is closed till Monday but I wondered if anyone knew how much I should be paying to have this corrected. I don't want to get ripped off by the dealer. thanks |

Sounds like a load of old tosh to me. All they are doing is winding the track rod ends in or out until the wheels are pointing in the right direction. There are no sensors etc that need to be reset, it is purely a mechanical adjustment.
My local garage did mine last week. It was £29.99 for front wheel or £75 for all four wheels to be aligned (plus VAT). I would expect the dealer to charge £100+ just to do the front wheels. |

Sounds like tosh to me too - kwik fit did mine a few months ago - I think it was £25 for all 4 although I think this was a discount as I was buying a full set of new tyres at the same time.
And to save you having to ask my 2005 V50 has cruise control and possibly DTSC (it's got something like that but can never quite remember what!) |

just be happy kwikfut didnt work on your car.
go find a proper tyre center with proper 4wheel alignement gear, or main dealer. as for "not allowed due....." utter tosh and nonsense.

Why try to fix somthing that isnt broken i just wonder how many motorist have fallen for this trick nationwide infact i should ring their head office and ask why i had one of your mechanics try to misinform me of the law,BTW W-lco motsave. |

To me it's obviouse when your tracking is badly out the car will pull one way or the other instead of running straight but as you take your car to a tyre dealer you tend to trust them as thay are the profesionals so most people will be suckerd in.

Went to national tyres this morning and got all wheels correctly aligned without any problems. Cost £28 and only took about 20 minutes, job done!
Thanks for all the answers, glad I didn't ask the dealer to do this |

Strongly, strongly recommend Protyre for wheel alignment, Protyre outlets throughout the country.
They have the top quality equipment and most franchises in my area which don't have such equipment take cars there Check free of charge, £28 for adjustments to the front, £28 for adjustments to the rear. If no adjustments are done, then there's no charge. They're very competetive on tyre pricing too. Been taking all my cars there for years. |
