Default Dimming the driver display and Google Map at night

I have had my XC40 now for just under a year and still havent found a way to dim the driver display and Google map screen.
On my last car (V90 )with the Sensus system, the displays dimmed automatically at night, my XC40 does not.
I am not 100% happy driving in the dark with a big and bright screen shining in the car. I would go as far as to say it is probably a safety hazard.
The old V90 also had a wheel under the dash to physically dim the dash. The XC40 does not.
There is a display dimming slide within the settings menu, but the doesnt work.
Is it just my XC40 or is the system just crap?

Hi Rusty,

Is your car running Sensus or AAOS?

Should be similar to V90

try
settings,
controls
and adjust interior brightness down do around 3/4,
it won't show any difference until you are out driving in the dark.

If you want to see how dark the screen is cover the sensor at the base of the windscreen in the centre of the top of the dash with the owners manual pack.

It will work, if there is no response, try resetting the centre screen and trying again.

Thanks for the response.
I have already tried covering the sensor on the dash. Made no difference.
I havent tried resetting the screen. That I will try tomorrow.
Will let you know what happens.

giftgrub100....

Sorted! Just had a play after watching a Utube video. What would I do without them?
All appears to be working including the sensor that wasn't sensing.
Thanks.
