Smile D5 engine what MPG do you get?

Hello, Im interested to find out what mpg people are getting from their D5 engined cars,, i have an S60 06 (185) and it so far the trip computer reckons its was doing 45mpg on motorway trip with a fair amount of stop start crawling. For shorter journeys it seems to be in the 36 to 39 mpg range with not too pedestrian driving technique. I hear the 163 engines are better on fuel economy, please post what vehicle you have and if its a 163 or 185, and pre or post 04 as i believe an improved injector system was introduced on the facelift (post 04 year) S60's.

the old 163 bhp D5 is best for economy you can get up to 60 mpg if you want to and average over 50 mpg if you do longer journeys ..

I have a 2003 V70 D5 with 144k miles . I made a 212 mile round trip journey on Friday and decided to do an economy run as the roads were empty most of the way and normally I am in too much of a hurry . Tank to tank it did 73mpg at an average speed of 46 mph . This is a lower figure than I would have got when the mileage was below 120k with the same driving technique . My car is not a good example of a well maintained D5 and have been using Havoline Extra 10W-40 for the past 60k miles and although it meets the B4 spec is probably not the best oil available . On the return journey I had a medium size cement mixer in the back so it wasnt lightly loaded . I would think a 163 euro 3 S60 D5 with 80 k miles or less and everything perfect could hit 100 mpg on an economy run . There is obviously a limit to what a particular car can do as just ticking over its going to use about 3L an hour , my petrol strimmer and 2.5bhp lawnmower both drink fuel at a faster rate than my D5 , in fact the strimmer is about the same as a T5 when it comes to fuel consumption .

Default Fuel consumption V70 D5

Volvo V70 D5 Geartronic first registered March 2005.

Fuel consumption for 34681 miles
4578 litres of Shell Vpower diesel
equates to 7.57 miles per litre, or 34.41 miles per Imperial gallon.

General use around town with the odd return trip totalling 260 miles on motorwayd and A roads.

I am very satisfied with this load lugger. Tyres pressure checked every week.
Vpower used because I find there is better acceleration for gap acceptance when emerging from side roads. Supermarket diesel very disappointing. Ordinary diesel okay but Vpower seems to be smoother and quicker to reach required speed.

Default Fuel consumption (continued)

Regarding my post a few minutes ago a check of my records shows that on a 494 mile round trip using Motorway 64.46 mpg was achieved. Obviously where you drive determines consumption.

I dont think you can recalibrate it , I am sure I recall one of the more knowledgeable posters advised that the trip works by counting the injector pulses as they measure out a known volume of fuel , I found this very dissapointing as it makes me think the trip cannot be accurate for this reason ? I find the instantaneous reading useful but find my D5 computer reads 4 to 5% optomistic for the average compared to a tank to tank measurement but I am even sceptical about measuring it this way as you can always get a bit more in by rocking the car and I dont trust some filling stations .
