I recently installed a plug in box from tuning-diesel, and i must say i am very impressed. Unlike many others this one is fairly clever in that it takes a feed from the maf so you can control the power progressively. It can be set to come in early at low revs, or only at high rpm. The power adjustment is also very good, i have not tried it on full bore yet as i am going for economy also, but set on approx. 3/4 power i am getting 6mpg more and a lot more power. I also have it set to come in at low rpm. It gives it excellent throttle response and starts to pull much earlier at just under 1500rpm rather than waiting for the turbo to kick in at 2100rpm. It's going on the rollers on saturday so i shall let you know how it does. I expect to see around 160bhp on the current setting and maybe 170bhp on full power, but we will see. The company doesn't make any 'over optimistic' power claims like some. Plus everything is british made so no cheapy rubbish.

Does anyone have experience with the MPG side of an engine remap? I am not after performance increases for acceleration etc, but to get better fuel economy.

That's a tricky question to answer. I have a 2.4d S60 and when I got it in Dec last year it was around 40/41 on dim but I had only done around 600 miles and then had it mapped from 163 to around 215.
I have just filled up today and worked out the consumption to be 40, but the reading on the DIM was less (39). Before the map the reading on the DIM would be 3 mpg higher than calculated. But I also have to take into account the cold weather and giving the car time to adjust to new map. I was informed by Shark performance that it is technically impossible for consumption to drop but for it to improve I guess depends on a lot of factors, such as you booting it as it is so much fun! |

Right, finally got around to getting the car on the dyno. So I was hoping for 160 bhp and maybe 250 ft/lb torque (standard being 140/214). After 2 runs it was clear I was wrong but in a good way........ The result was 170 bhp and 270 ft/lb of torque! So I was very pleased to say the least considering it was £144. Another plus point the smoke was minimal and my fuel consumption has been greatly improved ( if not lead footing it obviously) 49.3 mpg over 3 tanks full. So all in all very pleased with my purchase. I have graphs if anyone wants to see them.
