Yes, welcome back and not bad [real] mpg numbers. Glad it's not just my OBC that is prone to exageration!

Outnumbered - is your SHARK remap the standard 205hp one or a custom one? I only ask as I'm thinking of getting my V70 D5 SE 2004 re-mapped and had been leaning towards RICA, but seems like SHARK have plenty of happy punters on this site.

So after acting as support vehicle at Easter for a skiing/cycling holiday, we contrast with the T5D5 / MRG track day at Castle Combe last week.

The barge performed perfectly. The 320mm front brake upgrade was well worth it and the car stops so much better (think the same change as 286 -> 305mm discs).

And of course, being of the oilburning fraternity it would be remiss of me not to mention a total of 532 miles, 120ish of which were on track, with a final trip average of 35.0mpg according to the OBC (probably more like 32 in real life). All done on one brimmed tank of BP's finest Ultimate diseasel.

Hi there,

I've been reading your thread for a while now ( amongst hundreds of others )
Can I ask how the remap is going and what kind of price it was? I am a bit skint ( engine mount, oil, gearbox oil, buckled wheels, cabin filter, air filter, fuel filter, wind deflectors, boot liner, rubber matts etc etc ) but intend to remap ASAP ( after lowering springs pmfsl )
I have been looking at this, BSR, rica, a few others..... a local lad offered to do it for £250 but tbh I'm not 100% convinced by him and its a hell of a gamble.
At the moment I have a DTUK tuning box but I have been warned off this by people on various forums and just want to get it sorted out properly.

Sorry to take up your time,

Bert

Default DPF, EGR, VSL removal

Hi There
I read the posts in this thread with interest
I got a V70 D5 2006 and decided to go for reamp including removal of DPF, EGR, and VSL as a solution for damaged DPF after 160k miles done.

Has any of members would recommend a garage to do it in Scotland...?
Have you used/heard of Evolution chips?

thanks, Greg

Go to Grant at VES Sport in Braco, He remapped my 2005 S60 D5 and removed the DPF function aswell. It will be a custom map to suit your car, not an off the shelf map and you also get before and after power runs on the rollers too.

Cheers, Paul T.

Default 2004 S60 D5 163 EuroIII - 125.000 miles

Hi there,

Been reading this thread with great interest. Got above S60 with 125k miles, would it still be save and worth it to do a remap at this mileage?

MTE remap sounds better to me as I would prefer more power all over instead of a peak at some revs (RICA). Are there other good/decent remaps available? Does MTE stand out above others if I want more power allover?

And what are the costs approx?

Bjorn

Default Rica map

Had my '06 Euro 4 D5 mapped at a Rica approved agent. ..... WOW !!! Don't think about it just do it ! Now running 241bhp and 510nm it's a beast ! Might be worth noting that I have a contingency savings account (£550) for the inevitable DMF, clutch and cylinder replacement (when it happens, not if) lol. I also had some pretty big problems with the swirl arm/flap and DPF codes. However the swirl repair kit that replaced the plastic ball connector with a metal pin cost £45 inc labour and he is having a full DPF removal and delete to cure that problem. The difference is night and day !!! No longer hanging on to the ST's and VXR's they are but a dot on the horizon

Removing the DPF is a breach of the MOT regs and will partially invalidate the insurance, unless they approve the extra hp AND the DPF delete.
Getting an approval for the extra hp is easy, but because removing the DPF is classed as a criminal act for use on a public road (OK for track use), I doubt if any insurer will approve it.

The Volvo was designed as a family car and although some models corner and handle well, they are too heavy to be a true sports car. The UK also has a 70 mph limit that makes tuning a bit of a joke, unless you just like wearing out tyres.

I try and get some Sunday morning WOT time in on the autobahn about once a month to burn the EGR and CAT clean, I've got an OEM 130hp mild MAP Mod that does not cost any extra on the insurance (A 150hp one sure does). It's not so unusual to get Porsches, Mercs or Beamers doing some biblical speeds and the last one that crashed looked more like a military jet accident.
Speed kills and always will do!

Well that was a singularly joyless post.

We're not talking about 600bhp monsters here, if you think 240bhp is too much in an 1800KG car then that's great for you and I know a Vauxhall dealer that'll happily sell you a 1 litre 3 pot Corsa.

The MTE remap in my D5 took it from "irritatingly slow" to "acceptable". You don't need to be a speed demon to appreciate being able to accelerate into gaps on slip roads, pull away briskly at speed limit changes, and accelerate away from bends on more interesting roads.

I do agree completely about DPF removal though, it's legally risky and also rather antisocial. Pretty poor to expect everyone else to have to breathe in the smokey **** from your tailpipe because you're too much of a cheapskate to fix your emissions control equipment. The people moaning about how useless and unnecessary DPFs are were presumably the same bell ends that wanted us all to continue breathing in tetraethyl lead because "it never did me any harm".
