Default First time Volvo owner

Having owned many cars from a fair number of brands over the years, Volvo has escaped me...until now

Getting older but still like a bit of performance but the fun angle is covered by the V8 Vantage and TVR Tuscan sitting in the garage.

Have a BMW 650 convertible as a daily driver (although the TVR does more miles than it) and OH declared she wanted an estate version of the 650, big, safe, comfortable with decent performance

Having had a horror episode with a BMW 535d Touring I was avoiding BMWs, and as we wanted petrol that ruled out the 5 series anyway (petrol Tourings are near impossible to find)

Perfect opportunity to scratch the Volvo itch, discounted the V60 as too small for our needs, so V70 it had to be and therefore needed to be a T5, having decided the extra cost and complexity of 4 wheel drive and an R was ot justifiable

Did not want a Japan import and wanted a manual, the latter was the problem as these seem to be pretty thin on the ground.

Hopefully collecting this on Saturday, deposit paid and seems like a good one, albeit not cheap at all, Last owner for nearly 10 years, 16 stamps in the service book and of course, a manual

Looks lovely

It should be Ash Gold Pearl or Ash Gold Metallic (depends what brochure you read) Paint code: 446

Paint code plate is on the inner wing shut the code is followed by two other numbers, I think they are the paint batch number but could mean something else. 446 is what you are looking for.

How many miles are on this NTY car?

Be certain to check both rear wheels' parking brake hardware. If the brake shoe linings break off (they're glued, not riveted) the material can whirl around and cause damage. Use only Volvo parking brake shoes as all others are trash.

Best of luck with it.

from the link Nick posted:

The fourth digit stands for:
1 = BASF (Glasurit)
2 = Herberts (STANDOX)
3 = Beckers
4 = IDAC/Dupont
5 = Sikkens
6, 7, and 9 = not used
8 = IVI

The fifth digit stands for:
1 = solvent based
2 = water based Metallic/Pearl + Varnish
3 = water based Solid + Varnish
4 = solvent based Solid + Varnish
5 = solvent based Pearl shine + Varnish*
6 = water based Solid/Metallic/Pearl + 2 component Varnish
7 = water based Solid/Metallic/Pearl + powder Varnish
8, 9 = not used

car looks lovely condition.. one very basic check if you don't have a proper fault reader, you can hold the button in on the end of the left stalk, press fogs on/off (twice?) and the little info screen will show each module and whether it is clear of faults (ready) or has a fault (set) when you keep pressing the stalk button

it's very vague and doesn't really tell you a lot but you can at least know to steer clear (or do further checks) if there's a lot of 'sets'

the PDM and DDM (door modules) on mine always show set because it seems the locks are a bit sensitive but they always work fine so I just ignore it

f you get any sets on ECM / TCM / BCM / CEM / REM / UEM definitely look into it further (although presumably anything really serious would be accompanied by a permanent message about engine service required, or similar)

looks and sounds pretty well maintained though so probably nothing untoward touch wood
