Exclamation rear fog and front spot light switches

Hi everyone, one problem i have now whilst winter driving is easily locating the lower r.h.dash switches that power the front fog/spot and rear fog lights.Do these switches supposed to be illuminated as i find it most difficult to use them without a lot of distractive messing about when driving in the dark.My car is a V40 2004 1.9D.Comments please as these are the worst safety orientated driving switches i have encounted in 45 yrs of motoring!!!p.s.Everything else is excellent.

Although mine is slightly different to the '04 model I've also found myself fumbling dangerously in the dark trying to locate this switch. I've replaced the (one) bulb behind the headlight switch which only seems to illuminate the headlight height adjustment and dimmer switch. Are there more bulbs to be replaced in the front/rear fog light switch?

Hi All

I can assure you 100% that there are supposed to be lights behind ALL the switches on the light combination group.

I replaced 3 in total. There is one behind the headlight knob, on behind the h/l levelling rotary switch, one behind the dimming rotary and one behind the front/rear fogs.

I think the wattage I put in is a bit higher than standard - normall its 1.2W, but I have no trouble finding them!

i have replaced all 3 on mine 3 times in 2 years, dont bother with your local motor factors pop to volvo £2 each as far as i recall the motor factors sell the clear ones at about 1.50 but these look daft unless you want to try and remove the rubber cover on the old bulbs

May be worth calling first as my dealer had to order them, next day tho

Are dash ilumination bulbs a problem on vovo cars because the number of owners sending in posts and threads on this subject seems that there must be something wrong even on o.e.m. parts or even on cars supplied from factory? These dash bulbs are not the easiest to replace to the average home mechanic as there is always the worry of doing damage to other parts/trim in the replacement process.I will approach my own replacement with some trepidation that i will not damage something!!Not heard of other manufactures with as many dash bulb problems.Comments from long standing Volvo owners welcome.

Hi there,

Have this problem too.
Just ordered globes at $7.65AU each!
Found two issues:
1. After removing the screws pull the vent directly out then downwards. There is a spike at the buttom that needs to come out before pulling downwards.

2. Still have not got the globes out. Have used screwdriver to undo half way but need pointy end pliers or some VOVLO tool to get the globe out as paperclips dont do the trick!
Any suggestions?

Found the green light still works but the other two don't light up...could it be a fuse issue?

Hi - turn them about half way - there is actually a mark on the printed circuit board showing where to align the screwdriver. Then they just lift out. Get your fingernails either side of it and just lift. They might be slightly stuck in place but mine just lifted straight out.

Good luck.

PS - Where in Aus you from?
