I do agree, however the Volvo dealer is 25 miles away and not open on Saturday, in hindsight I would have got one sooner, however as there is no Volvo specific belt I am happy to go with the best quality on the market, I’d heard that about the initial pull on the belt that’s what I found annoying, the fact they carried on using generic belts rather than working with the belt manufacturers to improve things
In the meantime the search goes on to establish the correct belt

I’m a little concerned that gates are classed as cheap alternatives, that is kind of worrying tbh, they were always regarded as the best available and I’ve just found out the Volvo oe ones are gates, just spoken to a specialist to try and find out which size and he told me they only use gates and never had one fail, perhaps if gates are the cheap manufacturers that’s why Volvo had failures🤷🏻*♂️
I’ll admit I’m completely new to Volvo so I’m still finding my way with them, my timing belt kit is gates as well which is scaring me now as I always presumed it was the best

Volvo dont just buy stuff off Gates shelves , they specify exactly what they want and Gates make it for them If that's is what is printed next to VOLVO on the belt.
That goes for every single part they buy It has always been the case. Even Bosch did different quality grades of distributor cap... volvo always had the top spec..ford had the bottom one on the sierra for example.

Did you find the correct size ? I wouldve just emailed FRF with my VIN to get the correct size of belt to save all the faffing

No I’m going to have to refit the old one until I can get one, I really needed it for tomorrow but the local places haven’t got one and Volvo are closed until Tuesday, so it’ll be next weekend hopefully

INA and Gates are premium belt manufacturers. You can buy the Kevlar ones without a Volvo part number, they are available for several cars.

Check your alternator freewheel clutch is working properly, these do fail and that's what puts a huge strain on the aux belt at start-up.

I have a dead V70 project thanks to a snapped aux belt (previous owner, not me)
