At £1,500 it shows that old Volvos are a good investment ( but maybe not that one ). I still think that the 740 are undervalued at the moment. They seem to be becoming rarer.

There are fewer than 200 P1800s left in the UK

You are right there, 'Offgrid'! The youngest survivors are now over 30 years old and the oldest 40. As they aged, working cars, such as my 745 GLE, tended to disappear, being either scrapped, or sold for spares, thereby helping to keep others on the road. Cherished cars, like yours, were more likely to survive and are now entering preservation.

Linda and I are old enough have seen this phenomenon at work with 1 and 2 series cars before the 7. For example, I once bought a near immaculate one owner, sub sixty thousand mile, '72 144 DL in '91 for less than £600. Not any more! Today, in similar condition, it would likely sell for an order of magnitude more.

Hang on to your 7 series, 'Offgrid', their time will come. Meanwhile, enjoy them for what they are; supremely robust, safe, comfortable motor cars which, fuel excepted, do not cost an arm and a leg to run!

Regards, John.
