Lightbulb Radio Display is half dark

Hi All,

Just got the Volvo S40 2004, and when i get home, i realize that half of display is dark ( the top side of display) everything is working fine, except i can't see all the functions properly. Is there any way if i change only Lcd screen, would it work and ain't gonna need any software update, does any second hand Lcd would fit?
In reality you just change the Lcd unit, not the radio, so everything should work.
Maybe anyone knows about this more.

Two options - either the display connection is faulty (don't think so) or the display has been hit somehow, then you'd need a new one. Buy one on ebay and install it - it's pretty easy don't even need to remove the central console - search on youtube how to do that. don't know regarding the software update though.. anyway if the display is faulty you will need a new one and if then you need the software update then your local volvo dealer will do that..

sounds a good theory , it is fairly easy to remove the display and swap it , then no security problems with the module .

I looked on info and see videos about how to remove it, thats easy DIY, now goona search on ebay or scrap yards for second hand display unit. Other thing, my black line is very straight, if someone would hit it, it would be all over the display, uneven spots etc...

then first thing you could do is to clean the connectors.. they are optical ones, might help.. I was looking for some solutions for my problem and checked display removal/change procedure in vida.. please find it attached. unfortunately it says the software should be updated.. :-/ hope in your case cleaning might help.. let us know..

P.S. Overall the fact that you need to purchase new software each time anything is updated is becoming annoying.. :-(
