Angry V70 written off by a HGV

So after having my V70 reversed into and pushed 6ft by a HGV while parked they have decided to class it as a total loss (write off) due to the repair being over 60% of the cars value. Only had it 4 months so I'm gutted. Apart from the huge dent in the side it's pretty much mint. Seems such a waste

Thats a shame, anything expensive behind that panel, looks very repairable and replace door too, worthwhile buying back if its given you no bother and still in love with it?

Its ridiculous , having been through a similar situation with an older car . An insurance companies job is to put the car back into the same condition it was in before the accident which probably means a new wing , what difference does it make whether the car is worth £1000 or £30000 ? Premiums are not that different , the repair cost will be the same .. I would fight this with everything you have even if it means driving it around with a crumpled wing , or doing something with it yourself ..

As far as I am concerned the value of a vehicle is only important if you intend selling it ! That's not how insurance companies see it as they are out to make money ..

As its been pushed 6 feet its highly likely that there is damage to structure, suspension, etc. Worth getting a suitable garage to quote, you might be quids in, buy the wreck/negotiate payout etc. If the "chassis" is twisted chances are that it only makes sense to use the remains for spares.
The insurers view is reasonable as they have to pay lots for approved repairers to do the work.
You and I can of course shop around better, get it fixed locally. All depends how able you are to deal with the hassle, lack of car etc.

If those visible dents are all thats wrong, IF, then its a straightforward repair.
I strongly suspect further damage that might take an expert to see.

It is highly likely the only damage is what you see , as you know these are tough cars … chassis twisted ? !!!

That's daft, looks an easy repair, see if you can get a deal out of them where they pay you off and still get to keep the car?

I'd be amazed if you couldn't get that repaired at a small bodyshop for max £600.00

Was the car pushed hard into that nearside curb? be worth checking the wheels and suspension over.

Trouble with insurance now is the cost, they very often do deals with bodyshops on a per-car basis (about £1,300.00 rings a bell) and that's to repair every car that comes in. Add to that the cost of a Hire Car, storage fees etc and the claim starts getting expensive.....

The car was definitely pushed into the curb as both the curb and wheel have been marked. How hard though I'm not really sure and it's any damage to the suspension that concerns me.
If I thought it would still pass an mot with the damage as it was then I would happily keep the car and drive it with the dent left as it is. Not sure it would though although someone on here might know better?
I'm going to speak with the insurance company and see how much they would want for me to buy the car back from them
The only real consolation is that they have offered me £300 more than what I paid for the car so I should at least be able to buy a similar replacement

I would have thought it would cost a lot more than £600 to have it done right and correctly.
