Gear stick vibration P1800S
I have an annoying vibration rattle that comes through the gear-stick of my 1800S.
I have changed the bushing and the flexible gasket under the gearbox cover. If I pack the base of the gear-stick connection with thick grease, might this help? If so, any recommendations on type of grease? |

If you've changed the gearstick slotted bush and the gearbox mount maybe have a look at the engine mounts next if not replaced. Then the driveshaft bearing and if it's balanced.

Thick grease in the tube around the stick can help. If you have a non standard and possibly heavier gear knob that can also give vibration problems. Agree about engine and box mounts. Use good quality standard ones not heavier 164 or Land Rover ones unless you are using it for rallying.

Haven't found any parts vendor's that stock this spring in the past. And since it's an unusual size I haven't been able to source one with several spring companies or even longer ones that could be shortened. A fix I've used is to insert two or three washers as shims under the spring. However in use the spring will continue to weaken and need to be re-shimmed when it begins to lose tension again. |
