Default First Tow!

Towed with my XC 60 for the first time this afternoon .... just a short hop to Strathclyde Park CC site .... but very impressed.

Auto is great for towing.

Great to hear Iain!!! Still waiting for my first tow in March. Think we are going to the Isle of Wight to see our daughters new house.

Hi
I have towed trailers for a living travelling over 40000 miles a year now retired...I would recommend taking a good trailer course before you set off on your own.
Things to remember...keep your speed down because braking systems on trailers are usually old fashioned inefficient drum brakes.... so your braking distance will be two and a half times greater than without the trailer...loading the trailer is very important, if loaded heavy towards the rear it will be unstable..if loaded heavy to the front the braking system will be effected.
Modern vehicle ecu's are very sensitive so any snatching of the trailer on the tow bar due to road conditions or incorrect trailer weight distribution can send the towing vehicle into limp mode.
Try a few short trips first and be very careful until you get the feel of it with the extra length.

Hi Tony,

I actually meant it will be my first tow using my XC60. I have been caravanning since 1988 and had numerous tow cars and caravans. I have recently retired and treated myself to the XC60 to put a big smile on my face.

Thank you for your concerns and advice, which is very sound for a beginner.

David

Another successful tow home this afternoon ... it was easy for the speed to creep over 60 so must keep an eye on that.

How was the site as I normally end up in the hotel across the road.

It was fine ... pretty busy.

Stayed there about 8 times since the CC refurb a couple of years ago.

A little traffic noise but not too bad ... probably not somewhere for a fortnights holiday but good for shorter trips.

We use it for winter weekends as door to door it is about 20 minutes so if the weather looks snowy we can head for home quickly!

We normally stay here for a couple of days enroute when going down to France.http://www.reddeervillageholidaypark.co.uk/
There is a good chance we will stay at Strathclyde this year.
How is the bus service into buchanan bus station?
Its nice to have a pint in the counting house or louders without worrying about your licence.
